Did You Deliver The Right Product?
When a customer disputes a shipment it often comes down to a “he said, she said” scenario. You say you shipped the right thing and they say they didn’t receive what they ordered. The result is almost always a loss for the supplier (you) in disputed invoices and charge backs.
There are ways to combat this problem using verifiable technology. Here are 3 possibilities for your company using barcode technology to confirm the accuracy of shipments. Barcode for verification has been proven to reduce the possibility of human error by up to 99%+ and to increase productivity by as much as 40%.
Pack Verification Software – The use of barcode technology to verify the accuracy of items picked and packed against a sales order or pick ticket is often a stand-alone application used by distribution and manufacturing companies. The sales order or pick ticket is downloaded to mobile barcode devices that use the pack verification software. As each item is picked from warehouse shelves, the item number and quantity are confirmed by scanning a barcode on the item and entering or scanning a quantity into the mobile scanner. If the wrong item or quantity has been picked, the software will display a warning to the warehouse worker. Any error is identified and corrected immediately.
Item Shipment Verification – Our SIMBA software has a built-in feature in the SIMBA Logistics module we call “Van Loading”. In a nutshell, it is shipment verification. As cartons or pallets are loaded onto a truck or van, the barcode identifying each item is scanned and recorded. There can be no doubt what was loaded onto the van and shipped. The individual shipments may be recorded against a sales order or other customer identifier. This feature virtually eliminates charge-backs from customers, as each item has been recorded automatically using accurate barcodes at the time of loading.
Route Delivery Software – Another application that verifies delivery is one used by route delivery companies. As items are delivered to a customer by a company employee, the barcode on the item is scanned and a receipt is printed on the spot. For those who are paid as product is delivered, some route delivery software also prints an invoice.

Jeweler Saves Money with Pack Verification
When Rogers & Hollands Jewelers, a wholesale jewelry company, called Dynamic Systems, they were losing money through shipping errors. They knew they were packing and shipping incorrect pieces against orders, but when they sent a more expensive piece of jewelry than what was listed on the order, they rarely heard about it. They knew they were losing a lot of money due to these picking errors.
Dynamic Systems wrote a Pack Verification application using their specific requirements and the problem went away.
When is it a good idea to have software written to your specific requirements? Our advice would be either when your application is very specific to your business or when it saves you money.
So when does it save money to have software written for you? When the features of off-the-shelf lower-cost software are too minimal or when the available software has many more features than you need, making it too expensive, a custom written application could be the solution.
Example: A Dynamic Systems prospect needs “Route Delivery Verification”. They deliver many small items to stores like Circle K and 7-11 and collect cash on the spot. They want to make sure no items are getting lost or money stolen. Most of the available software is feature-rich, including dispatching and scheduling, GPS location tracking, customer invoicing, etc. But they only want to keep track of what is delivered and print a receipt to verify cash collected.
The best decision for them is to have a simple custom application written to their exact specifications. It would be completed in less than a month, would be easy for their unsophisticated delivery personnel to use, and would save them money.
