Increase Warehouse Efficiencies
A recent study by the research company Vanson Bourne revealed that 27% of US warehouses are still using paper and pencil. With companies focusing on increasing productivity, this is a surprising statistic – especially since there are so many affordable barcode-based inventory systems available.
What has caused the delay in adopting new technology for managing inventory? It can seem to be a daunting task with a requirement for significant dollar investment in capital equipment. However, if the system is designed properly, the payback can be as fast as one year! In calculating your Return On Investment for an inventory control system, consider:
- Reduced shrinkage – with a well-managed barcode system, the loss due to inventory shrinkage can become virtually undetectable.
- Reduced Cost of data entry – barcode input eliminates manual data entry, which not only saves labor costs but increases data accuracy to 99%+.
- Real-time information – a wireless barcode inventory system provides immediate feedback to sales and management, decreases lead-times and improves customer service.

Shipment Verification to Save Money and Eliminate Charge-backs
It’s very frustrating for both the shipper and the customer if the wrong item gets to the wrong place – the costs start adding up for both parties. One solution to this problem is to use an automated shipment verification system.
CheckMate Pack-Verification system was designed by Dynamic Systems to help a wholesale jeweler verify that their warehouse personnel are picking and shipping the correct product to their customers. While their packages are small, the value is large. With the Pack Verification system, their warehouse workers scan each item as they put it in the box. If the item is incorrect, there is a warning that flashes on the handheld barcode scanner. Shipping mistakes have decreased significantly.
Our SIMBA Logistics provides verification of each fresh food package loaded onto a truck or van, or shipped against a sales order. This provides the fresh seafood or produce company with the proof they need for shipment charge-back disputes, which unfortunately happen frequently.
Motorola Solutions, the barcode and RFID automation division of Motorola has been acquired by Zebra Technologies. The result is a billion dollar + company that can provide the full solution – Barcode Printers and Media, Scanners, Mobile Handheld Terminals, Wireless Networks and RFID Solutions.
The Motorola brand will be replaced by “Symbol” taking the products back to their roots, as Motorola purchased Symbol Technologies some years ago.
We anticipate little or no impact to the supply chain. Products continue to be available and Motorola Partners are being welcomed by Zebra Technologies. If you have any questions, please give us a call.
