PPG (Pittsburg Paint & Glass) is a multi-national company that manufactures specialty building materials including paints, glass, coating, optical products and more.
PPG in the US was introduced to CheckMate™ when PPG Malaysia installed the Asset Tracking version. They were impressed with the software’s versatility, ease of installation and ease of use. When their architectural samples department decided it was time to improve the process they use to send out samples of paint and glass, they turned to Dynamic Systems.
PPG is using the CheckMate™ Toolroom application to label and track their samples. These samples are ordered by architects all over the country. Because they are costly to reproduce, PPG would like them returned in a timely manner. But tracking thousands of samples, where they went and when they were due back was a huge job – especially when handled manually. Not surprisingly, they lost thousands of dollars worth of samples each year.
Now PPG labels each package as it is sent to an architect and records that item in CheckMate™ with details of who it was sent to. A due date is set and reports of items due back are pulled regularly. PPG is using Zebra printers to produce the labels on the fly from CheckMate and the Psion Workabout Pro3 handheld mobile terminal as their scanner. They chose the Workabout Pro3 because it can be upgraded to become an RFID scanner in the future.
